Project Global Officer

Project GO (Global Officers) is a nationwide program providing training in selected strategic languages for ROTC students at 25 universities. The University of Arizona is proudly one of only a few to provide Arabic language and culture training.

Project GO at UA provides ROTC students with enhanced training in Arabic language and Middle Eastern culture, designed to enable UA's ROTC officer candidates to enter the U.S. military with invaluable linguistic and cultural knowledge.

Project GO is coordinated by the Center for Middle East Studies (CMES) and draws on the knowledge and expertise of CMES and the School of Middle East and North African Studies (MENAS). CMES cooperates with the leadership of each ROTC service branch represented at UA, including the Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC programs. Project GO accepts applications from all members of UA's ROTC community.

The program offers both academic year training and fully-funded scholarships for UA's 8-week summer study abroad program in Jordan or UA's summer programs on campus in Tucson.

Academic year benefits include the following for ROTC students in Project GO:

  • Personalized tutoring
  • Individual native Arabic-speaking language partners
  • Arabic language film screenings and lectures
  • Other cultural activities involving Tucson's Arab population

Participation during the academic year will make UA ROTC students highly competitive for the Summer immersion programs, which are open to ROTC students nationwide. There are 11 funded scholarships for Arizona in the Jordan program and 6 funded scholarships for the on-campus Arabic program in Tucson, AZ. Both summer programs are 8 weeks in length.
